Embroidery is durable, but a few simple habits will keep your stitching crisp for years.
Before washing
Turn the garment inside out so the stitching is protected from friction. Close zippers and pockets.
Washing
- Wash cold on a gentle cycle with mild detergent.
- Skip bleach and fabric softener, which can dull thread.
- Wash with similar colors, especially for the first few washes.
Drying and ironing
Air dry when you can, or tumble dry low. If you need to iron, press from the inside or use a pressing cloth, and never press directly on the stitching.
Storing
Fold hoodies and sweatshirts rather than hanging them for long periods, which can stretch the fabric around the embroidery.
